Interview with Ricki Lake

Ricki LakeI am so excited to share with you this short interview I had with Ricki Lake at the recent screening of her movie, The Business of Being Born! It is apparent to me through her travels she has had a very thorough education on the politics of midwifery not just in the US, but all over the world. This interview marks the reincarnation of Home Birth Talk as Midwifery World! Thank you for sticking around reading, listening, and watching! I am grateful for the SEVERAL THOUSAND downloads of my Podcasts! I hope to have many more in the future.

    Way to go, birth activitists!

Midwife Bagiu, is this your first celebrity interview?

If so, one would never know it!

    Congratulations!

Thanks dear friends for helping me test this template and work out the bugs!

Sarah– I’d love to visit Jon Stewart. I’ll see if I can book him. He’s probably having a hard time with the writer’s strike ;)

    Karen– gracias!!

Babymidwyfe– Birth Activists rock! I think this qualifies as my first taped celebrity interview :) I’ve met many enormously famous people through my husband’s Olympic gymnastics career (hello Nadia Comaneci!) so being around stars is “comfy” if there is such a thing, lol!

Lauri– I have to give props to the Internet and all the birth professionals of Orange County, California for making this happen! Word of mouth is amazing! I used eventbrite.com to sell our tickets and keep track of seats. So there was NO work necessary for me or the busy staff at South Coast Midwifery. Attendees could buy their tickets whenever it suited them. The hardest part was nailing down a date that would work for the practice and for Ricki, but still that was handled over email. The big thanks goes to our jetlagged star for helping us make it happen. In the end, all I really did was a few phone calls, a lot of emails, and a little bit of primping ;)

You should get the message out there about women needing more information on natural birth options being available…I gave birth at Hackensack nj,after they told me I could try VBAC .They get me there on delivery day and told me no you cannot try you will have a 1%chance of dying and no hospital in nj will deliver you vbac…so I had 2c’s and a 3rd recently I wish I had seen your show earlier to know that there was an option now if I were to get pregnant I don’t have a choice cause I have ruined my scar tissue and uterus right?
