Podcast Episode 3: Thinking about home birth
In this Podcast I talked with my husband Mihai about his ideas about and experiences of home birth. We reflected on our first birth in the hospital attended by a midwife and how we were led toward home birth.

- Flora Flores, CNM and can be found through the American College of Nurse-Midwives: http://acnm.org/
- Kris’ second midwife, Lorri Walker: http://southcoastmidwifery.com/
- Kris’ insightful neonatal resuscitation instructor, Karen Strange: http://newbornbreath.com/
Gratuitous link to Mihai: His great new project GymnastTV.com and his official USA Gymnastics biography.
It was really fun for me to talk with Mihai about our home births and you’ll see that we have different ideas about it all!

Hi Kris and Mehai thanks for sharing your births with us. #11-5 claim to fame INDEED! You go girl! It was lovely to hear your voices (Kris you are so professional and positive and peppy, just lovely) and to hear about your experiences and thought processes in approaching your pregnancies and births. It is so great to include dad’s point of view. A lot of our fathers express concern over feeling “hen-pecked” (that’s an Amish phrase) about having so many women attend them in labor (midwife, nurse, sometimes student midwife). Mehai’s words can help them realize that midwives’ make it YOUR experience and protect the privacy of a couple. Well, thanks again for sharing.
Did you ever work with Amy G. at Lorri’s center? She’s a friend of mine….
Yes, I know Amy. Every time I hear Genie in a Bottle, I think of her belly dancing at my Christmas party
She left that job for nursing school just as I entered into the practice for my first home birth and returned shortly before I had my third home birth, which she attended as a student nurse-midwife, for her CNEP clinicals. Amy is now working for a county in SoCal as a public health nurse after working briefly as a staff midwife straddling two birth center practices. I’ve got some hilarious pictures from the last time I saw her, which sadly was a few years ago due to busy lives and now living far apart. We exchange emails when we remember!
Thanks for doing these podcasts Kris, I’ve learned alot from them and it keeps me real. I get intimidated by birthweights etc… and my husband is hell bent that we will never have a home birth without a CNM so I have to build up more ammunition to fight him since there isn’t one here. BTW, I just got an email from a midwife today offering me an interview to be her assitant! Best day I’ve had in a long time!
You and your husband are welcome! I canNOT wait to hear about your interview. I’m excited! Yay Elizabeth!
